My favorite young actress Allegra Acosta returns for season two of the Runaways on Hulu. The show is about a group of teenagers from diverse backgrounds who unite to fight against their criminal parents. Allegra stars as Molly Hernandez, the youngest member of the crew who discovers in season one that she has superhuman strength. The character of Molly Hernandez was originally Molly Hayes in the comic books, but the producers changed the character’s name and ethnicity to accommodate Acosta in the role. Marvel cast three Latinos in lead roles for the Runaways and the show is poised for big ratings in season two.
Hulu provides what is known as “over-the-top” media services that are streamed over the internet and available by subscription. It is owned by multiple media conglomerates, including Comcast and Fox, but recent mergers have positioned Disney to become majority owner after their acquisition of Fox’s media properties which completes in January. Allegra, who is only 15 years old, was recently interviewed by Newsweek Magazine and spoke about how the Disney merger could open the door for her character to encounter some of the most iconic characters in film such as Wolverine and the Avengers. You can read the interview here. Pretty exciting stuff. Allegra’s dad, David Acosta, will be installed as NAHREP’s national president next April. The Runaways is already a favorite of the NAHREP staff. You don’t want to miss season 2.
