Actress Zoë Saldaña (Guardians of the Galaxy) has launched a media company called BeSe. The company will focus on “cultural storytelling” targeting millennial and Gen Z audiences. A lot has been said about the lack of diversity in Hollywood, but I always say people will resist change until not changing affects their livelihood. The emergence of digital media has lowered the barrier of entry for new ventures. It gives creative types the opportunity to build an audience with little to no cost. Zoë’s new venture comes a few months after a similar venture was announced that included Sofia Vergara. Latinos have plenty of great artists and performers, but we need more media entrepreneurs. For Latinos, business is the new sexy! I hope BeSe is only the beginning.
