If you really love authentic Mexican food and plan to be in San Diego, you have to try Las Cuatro Milpas on 1857 Logan Avenue in Barrio Logan near the Chicano Park area. The beef tacos and chorizo con huevos are the best I have ever had. I love to go there after long road trips when only comfort food will get the job done. Expect long lines and crusty picnic tables, but know that nobody is there for the décor or service. Nuevo Latino Cuisine is a trend started by Chef Douglas Rodriguez in Miami. Doug was one of the first restaurateurs to turn traditional Latin dishes into grand cuisine. I love fancy Mexican restaurants, but make no mistake that some of the best Mexican food in the world is still served in the most modest of settings.
